In the 1950s, the International Watch Company of Schaffhausen was refocusing on its civilian watches after the war years. The Caliber 89, a manual-wind manufacture movement, powered a range of sober and well-built dress watches, intended for an affluent and industrial clientele, as evidenced by the engraving on the case back: a gift from Gebrüder Sulzer AG of Winterthur to one of its long-serving employees, a common practice in post-war industrial Switzerland.
