The Gruen Precision 770R chronograph dates from the turn of the 1970s, a pivotal period for this American house founded in Ohio: after the sale of the company in 1958 and its transfer to New York under new management, Gruen now assembled Swiss movements in cases positioned in an accessible rather than prestigious segment. This model features the Valjoux 7733 caliber, which originated from Venus's famous 188 caliber, a brand absorbed by Valjoux in 1966.
