This 1970s Jaeger-LeCoultre Memovox E855 features a silver dial with applied indices, the JLC logo at 12 o'clock, an inner alarm disc, and a date window at 3 o'clock.
Its stainless steel case measures 37 mm excluding the crowns, a generous size for the era. It is equipped with two JLC-signed crowns: one for winding and setting the time, the other for adjusting the alarm disc.
It is powered by the caliber K825, a bumper automatic movement with a mechanical alarm function and date.

Watch condition
The watch is entirely original, with the exception of the crystal and the crowns, which have been replaced. The crowns are brand-correct and signed by JLC. The dial is very well preserved and has never been touched. The steel case is in good condition.

How does the alarm function on this Memovox work?

The watch has two crowns. One is used to set the time and date. The other is used to wind the alarm mainspring and set the alarm disc to the desired chime time. The alarm has its own barrel, independent of the one that powers the watch.

What is a bumper automatic movement?

In a bumper movement, the oscillating weight does not make a full rotation: it bounces between two bumper springs located on either side of the movement. This is the system used by the caliber 825, which winds the watch through wrist movement.

How does it differ from the first automatic Memovox models?

The caliber 825 is derived from the caliber 815, the first generation of automatic Memovox alarm watches. It adds a date function, which, in 1959, made it Jaeger-LeCoultre's first automatic alarm watch with a calendar. The date is visible in the window at 3 o'clock.
