This L.U.C. watch is immediately recognizable by its two-tone bullseye dial (cream and brown) and its cow horn lugs. The dial features Arabic numerals, a railroad minute track, and a small seconds sub-dial at 6 o'clock. The case shows a pronounced patina and some visible signs of wear.
The movement is a Fontainemelon (FHF) ébauche, caliber 175, manually wound and signed L.U.C.

Watch condition
The watch is entirely original. The dial has never been retouched and is in very good condition, despite some age-related marks which are very faint. The case shows signs of wear.

What does L.U.C. stand for?

These are the initials of Louis-Ulysse Chopard, who founded his company in 1860 in Sonvilier, Switzerland. In 1963, the company was acquired by Karl Scheufele, whose family still manages it today. It is now known simply as Chopard, and the L.U.C. initials were brought back in 1996 to designate the movements developed by its manufacture.

What is an FHF ébauche?

FHF stands for Fabrique d'Horlogerie de Fontainemelon, founded in 1793 under the name Benguerel & Humbert. It was one of the major Swiss ébauche manufacturers, meaning it produced base movements that brands would finish, regulate, and sign under their own names. The 175 caliber family is manually wound, with a small seconds display.

What are cow horn lugs?

These are long, slender, slightly curved lugs that resemble the horns of a cow. They are found on many vintage watches.

I bought an Omega watch with an incredible patina from Vintage Watch Spirit. The watches in their catalog are splendid. A promising family-run start-up in vintage watchmaking.
