Did you miss it?

More vintage watches are waiting for you.

This early 1960s Büren Grand Prix Super-Slender is equipped with the caliber 1000, which launched the brand's micro-rotor movement series. This automatic movement measures only 4.2 mm in thickness.
The cream dial, with very light patina, features applied indices. The case is made of stainless steel and the crown is signed.

Watch condition
The watch is entirely original except for the crystal, which has been replaced. The dial is cream-colored and has never been touched. A very slight brown spot can be observed at the top, and small dots have developed across the dial, though they are barely visible. The 10-sided crown is original and signed by Buren. The case is in good overall condition.

What is a micro-rotor?

In a standard automatic movement, the oscillating weight is positioned on top of the movement. The micro-rotor is a small weight integrated within the plane of the movement, which allows for the construction of significantly thinner calibers. Hans Kocher, of Büren, filed his patent in June 1954, and Universal Genève filed theirs in 1955. Our article on the micro-rotor details the principle.

What do we know about the caliber 1000?

The caliber 1000 is an automatic micro-rotor movement, introduced in the late 1950s in Super Slender watches. It measures 4.2 mm in thickness and displays hours, minutes, and seconds. It was followed by the caliber 1001, which adds a date function.

What do we know about the Büren brand?

The Büren Watch Company was founded in 1873 in Büren an der Aare, Switzerland. It was acquired by the American company Hamilton in 1966, and the brand disappeared in the early 1970s.
