What is a Seachero?

"Seachero" is the name collectors give to watches with Ranchero cases (references CK 2990 and CK 2996) featuring a Seamaster dial. It is a common term among vintage Omega enthusiasts.

What do we know about the Omega Ranchero?

The Ranchero appeared in 1958, one year after the trio of the Speedmaster, Railmaster, and Seamaster 300, from which it borrows its "broad arrow" hands. Offered as an entry-level model—thinner and less expensive—it sold poorly, and its production was halted shortly after its launch. One proposed explanation involves the word "ranchero," which in Spanish evokes a farm hand. This short production run is what makes it rare today.

What do we know about the caliber 284?

The 284 belongs to Omega's family of 30 mm calibers. It is a manual-winding version with central seconds, 17 jewels, shock protection, and anti-magnetic properties. It beats at 18,000 vibrations per hour.

What does reference CK 2996 mean?

The CK 2996 case is the central-seconds version of the Ranchero case. The small-seconds version bears the reference CK 2990.

What does an extract from the Omega archives contain?

It confirms the watch's year of production and, most often, the country to which it was originally delivered.

Launched in 1948 to celebrate Omega's centenary, the Seamaster is one of the Swiss brand's most iconic collections. In its early days, it embodied the ultimate "dress-sport" watch: robust, waterproof, yet elegant enough to accompany its wearer in all circumstances. In 1957, it adopted the seahorse as its emblem: a symbol inspired by Venetian sculptures of Neptune, carved on either side of the gondolas in the City of Doges, and since then inextricably linked to the collection's marine identity.
