This Santos Octogonale features a stainless steel case in good condition and an 18k yellow gold octagonal bezel, secured by eight visible screws. It is equipped with an integrated bracelet, composed of steel links and 18k yellow gold decorative screws, with a deployment clasp bearing the Cartier double C.
The white lacquered dial has yellowed over time and shows slight cracking. It features black Roman numerals, a railway minute track, a date at 3 o'clock, and blued steel sword-shaped hands.
The watch is powered by an automatic ETA 2671 caliber with quick-set date.
It comes with its original Cartier box.

Watch condition
The watch is entirely original. The dial is cracked (a so-called "spider" dial) and has slightly yellowed at the edges. The crystal has a few faint scratches. The case is in good overall condition, with some signs of wear. The gold bezel is in good condition. The bracelet has been very well preserved.

What is the origin of the Santos?

In 1904, aviator Alberto Santos-Dumont complained to his friend Louis Cartier that a pocket watch was impractical while flying. Cartier designed him a square wristwatch on a leather strap. It entered mass production in 1911.

What changed with the Santos de Cartier launched in 1978?

It adopted the steel and gold Santos design, featuring a bezel fixed by screws and an integrated bracelet. In 1987, the model was redesigned and relaunched as the Santos Galbée.

What is the difference between the Santos Octogonale and the Santos Carrée?

Like the Santos Carrée introduced in 1978, the Octogonale features a screwed-down bezel and an integrated bracelet. It is distinguished by its eight-sided bezel, here in 18k yellow gold.

What do we know about the ETA 2671 caliber?

It is a compact automatic caliber from the ETA manufacture, featuring bidirectional winding. It displays the date with quick-set correction and includes a hacking seconds function for time setting. It beats at 28,800 vibrations per hour.

Founded in Paris in 1847, Cartier is one of the most iconic French watchmaking and jewelry houses. The brand's vintage watches, starting with the Santos (1904) and the Tank (1917), are distinguished by clean geometric lines, Roman numeral dials, and the famous crown set with a cabochon, typically spinel and sometimes sapphire on certain models.

These vintage pieces embody the timeless elegance and exceptional craftsmanship that have made the house famous, and remain highly sought after by collectors today.
