This 1945 Longines belongs to the "sei tacche" family, recognizable by their screw-down case back with six notches. Its two-tone bullseye dial, featuring a copper-colored center encircled by black, has developed a uniform patina.
The movement is the calibre 12.68Z, a manual-winding manufacture movement, featuring 17 jewels and shock protection.

Watch condition
The watch is entirely original, with the exception of the crystal, which has been replaced. The dial has never been touched and is in very good condition. The case is in good condition for its age.

Why are they called "sei tacche"?

"Sei tacche" means "six notches" in Italian. Italian collectors gave this nickname, long after their production, to Longines watches from the 1930s-1940s whose screw-down case back opens via six notches. Models with three notches are called "tre tacche".

Screw-down case back: why was it a novelty?

Longines watches from the 1920s and early 1930s had a snap-on case back, without a gasket, which provided poor protection for the movement against moisture and dust. The screw-down case back was a new approach at the time, which has now become the standard. Longines first used it for its chronographs, then for its three-hand watches.

The 12.68Z calibre in brief

It is a Longines manual-winding calibre, with 17 jewels and shock protection. It was produced from the 1930s to the 1950s and powers many sei tacche and tre tacche models.

How to identify a bullseye dial?

By its target-like design: a central disc surrounded by an outer ring of a contrasting color. Here, the center is copper-colored and the ring is black.
