This 1958 Omega Seamaster features a crosshair dial, an exceptional patina that has turned into orange tones, and applied gold indices.
Its case is gold-plated, with a stainless steel caseback and a signed crown. It is powered by the Omega caliber 501, an automatic movement with a central rotor.

Watch condition
The watch is entirely original, with the exception of the crystal, which has been replaced. The dial has never been touched and has developed a golden patina across its entire surface over time. The crown is signed Omega. The gold-plated case is in good overall condition and has not lost any material.

What do we know about the 501 caliber?

The 501 is an automatic caliber with a central rotor, introduced by Omega in 1955. Its rotor spins 360° and the movement beats at 19,800 vibrations per hour. It gradually replaced the bumper calibers.

What is a bumper system?

The bumper is an older automatic winding system. The rotor only oscillates approximately 120 to 130° and bounces against bumpers, hence its name. You can sometimes feel this slight shock on your wrist.

Launched in 1948 to celebrate Omega's centenary, the Seamaster is one of the Swiss brand's most iconic collections. In its early days, it embodied the ultimate "dress-sport" watch: robust, waterproof, yet elegant enough to accompany its wearer in all circumstances. In 1957, it adopted the seahorse as its emblem: a symbol inspired by Venetian sculptures of Neptune, carved on either side of the gondolas in the City of Doges, and since then inextricably linked to the collection's marine identity.

Detailed, high-resolution photos and videos allowed for a close inspection of every small detail. And everything that wasn't in the description or photos could be easily clarified in the chat.
